Reykjavik is the northernmost capital city in the world, sitting at 64°N on the southwestern coast of Iceland where the North Atlantic meets a landscape shaped by volcanoes, glaciers, and geothermal energy. Most visitors use Reykjavik as a base for exploring Iceland's dramatic natural scenery. The Golden Circle, the Blue Lagoon, whale watching, and Northern Lights tours all depart from the city, and the international airport at Keflavik is just 50 km away. Summer brings near-24-hour daylight and mild temperatures, while winter offers dark skies ideal for aurora viewing and a cosy cafe culture that makes the short days surprisingly pleasant.
